FIELD: tobacco, cigars, cigarettes, smokables.
SUBSTANCE: invention generally relates to methods for reducing the amount of nicotine-derived nitrosamine ketone or 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) in plant tobacco material. Method of reducing the amount of matrix bound NNK in a dried tobacco plant material includes separating lignified tissue from non-lignified tissue, where the amount of lignin is reduced mechanically, where the lignified tissue is separated from the non-lignified tissue by removal of the vascular bundle, xylem or lignified sclerenchymatic tissue.
EFFECT: technical result of the invention is efficient reduction the amount of matrix-bound NNK in dried tobacco plant material.
