FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to biochemistry, in particular to a method of producing a tobacco plant with high concentration of free methionine, which reduces expression or activity of threonine synthase in a tobacco plant. Also disclosed are a transgenic tobacco plant having an increased concentration of free methionine, transgenic plant material of tobacco, a seed having an increased concentration of free methionine, which contain a polynucleotide which exhibits activity of RNA interference against mRNA of threonine synthase. Invention also relates to a method of producing methional comprising heating said tobacco material, as well as to a tobacco composition having an increased concentration of free methionine, also containing said tobacco material.
EFFECT: invention enables to efficiently obtain a tobacco plant with a high concentration of free methionine compared to a wild-type tobacco plant.
