FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of foundry production and can be used to protect the metal mirror during continuous casting. This method for obtaining granulated heat-insulating mixture containing (wt. %) biogenic silica fume (25–30), condensed silica fume (25–35), refractory clay (10–15), lime (2.0–4.5), sodium silicate (1.5–2.0), carboxymethylcellulose (0.5–1.0) and dehydrated diatomite (the rest) involves the following steps. At first, molding mass containing (wt. %) biogenic silica fume (18–23), condensed silica fume (18–23), refractory clay (8–12), lime (2–3), diatomite dehydrated (the rest) is prepared. Then a binder containing (wt. %) liquid glass (10–15), carboxyl methylcellulose (1–2), urea (2–3) and water (the rest) is prepared. Above components of the molding material and the binder are mixed and dried at a temperature that causes the dissociation of urea, while the content of the binder is 25–30 wt.%.
EFFECT: improved technological and thermal insulation properties of the granular insulating mixture.
