FIELD: nuclear physics and equipment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to nuclear power engineering. Installation for monitoring the characteristics of the vibro-packed fuel elements (fuel rods) contains a series of gamma radiation detecting units, upper and lower fuel rod plug holders mounted on opposite sides along the axis of fuel rod movement, a gamma radiation source, a fuel rod moving mechanism and a control unit connected to the detection unit and the fuel rod moving mechanism. Detection unit has a lateral hole in the crystal to record gamma radiation from the entire surface of the fuel element. Source of gamma radiation is located in a hermetically sealed hole, made in the body of the holder of the lower plug of the fuel rod.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to determine the uniformity of the fuel distribution and the lengths of the fuel column of the vibro-packed fuel rods.
