FIELD: construction.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in construction. Desiccant composition for double-glazed windows includes magnesium oxide and palygorskite at the following mass ratio of components, wt. %: magnesium oxide 5–80 %, palygorskite – the rest up to 100 %. To obtain the desiccant composition, the starting mixture is mixed, moistened with a weight ratio to water of 1.0:0.3 to 1.0:0.7, granulated, dried at 50–250 °C, calcined at 400–500 °C, classified and packed into a sealed package. Starting mixture is prepared from a reaction mixture containing magnesium hydroxide or a natural brucite mineral taken in a ratio of magnesium hydroxide or natural mineral brucite 5–95 wt. %, palygorskite the balance of up to 100 wt. %.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to obtain from a readily available mineral raw material a desiccant having high strength and water absorption capacity, providing good performance characteristics and comfortable conditions in residential and industrial areas.
