SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. This method for performing read ahead in data storage systems, in which the interval of the sequential address space of each request and the time of the request are determined and stored; the data is arranged in the list of intervals for read ahead when the threshold length of the interval of the address space is exceeded, and the data about request intervals with length less than the threshold value is placed in the list of random request intervals; in the course of monitoring, a partial coincidence of the interval of the address space of the current request with the interval stored in one of the above lists is detected; it is followed by checking whether the length of the address space exceeds the interval of the threshold length of the interval of the address space, and in case it is so, the data on this sequential interval is added to the list for read ahead; a read ahead of data blocks located in front of the current reading area of these intervals is performed to the extent proportional to the relative significance of each interval in the list of intervals for read ahead.

EFFECT: technical result consists in improving the performance of the data storage system.
