SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of comparing digital images. Method for comparing digital images is to obtain a first sampled and quantized image of a scene, then a second sampled and quantized image of the same scene is obtained, after which both images are elementwise compared, and a comparison image is obtained from the comparison results, each of the obtained sampled and quantized images is converted to a multilayer structure in the form of a set of layers of binary images, respectively, to their quantization levels, the resulting binary components of one of the images are inverted by the NOT logical gate, and then both of the resulting sets of layers of binary images are combined into a common structure, then the placement of ones and zeros is sorted by quantization levels, moving the values of the units to the lower levels in the resulting total set of layers of binary images, and then form the amplitude of the image signal of the comparison in accordance with the number of units obtained for each element of this image.

EFFECT: technical result is an increased efficiency in comparing pairs of digital images of observed scenes.
