SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for encoding volumetric video content. A value describing the distance between the first and second points is quantized by using a quantization function defined by the third point, the given angle, and the error value. Moreover, the above quantization function is determined in such a way that the sum of the dequantized above quantized value and the above error value creates a fourth point in such a way that the angle formed by the fourth, third, second points does not exceed the above given angle. The above quantized value is encoded into the data stream, together with metadata describing the above quantization function.
