FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used during the stainless steel cladded low carbon low alloy steel pipe production by contact welding. Feeding the steel strip in the pipe length direction, shaping it and perform its edges contact welding. Feeding the protective gas to the areas to be welded through the nozzle outlet, divided into three zones in the open pipe circumferential direction. Gas outlet is located directly above the open pipe welded sections in 5–300 mm above their upper ends. Setting the gas flow velocity B in the said three zones central zone outlet at 0.5–50 m/s, and the gas flow velocity A in the of the two side zones outlet is set from 0.01≤B/A≤10.
EFFECT: after welding, the steel pipe has excellent weld seam characteristics without additional machining and cladding.
