SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to the commercial rearing of mites. Disclosed are a mite composition for use in biological pest control, a method and device for rearing mites, a method of protecting crops using the mite composition. Mite composition includes a population of individuals of a mite species, selected from Mesostigmatid or Prostigmatid, a food source and a carrier for the individuals of the mite species. Carrier includes stacked elements from Poaseae chaff, including structures that are suitable as storage for mites. Storage is calculated so that the storage volume is 2–14 mm3, preferably 2–12 mm3, more preferably 2–10 mm3, most preferably 2–8 mm3.
EFFECT: invention on the basis of the proposed mite composition provides an increase in the growth rate and density of the mite population in comparison with mite compositions with other carrier materials.
