In the method, the electrically heated aerosol generating system comprises a charger including a rechargeable power source, and an electrically heated aerosol generating device, which is arranged to house the aerosol generating substrate, comprises a rechargeable power source and at least one electric heating element. To control the proposed system, the following is used: monitoring the ambient temperature near the charger; determining the charging current for charging the rechargeable power source of the charger, depending on the ambient temperature and charging the rechargeable power source of the charger at a certain charging current.
