SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to audio signal processing, in particular, to a method for reproducing a multi-channel audio signal including an audio signal with an elevation in an environment with a horizontal layout, thereby obtaining the rendering parameter in accordance with the rendering type and configuring the downmix matrix. Method of rendering an audio signal includes the steps of receiving a multi-channel signal comprising a plurality of input channels to be converted into a plurality of output channels; determine the type of rendering for rendering with elevation based on a parameter determined from the characteristics of the multichannel signal; and rendering at least one high-altitude input channel in accordance with the determined rendering type, wherein the parameter is included in the bit stream of the multi-channel signal.
EFFECT: ensuring high rendering performance with respect to an audio signal that is not suitable for applying virtual rendering.
