SUBSTANCE: invention relates to audio signal processing, in particular to a method of reproducing a multichannel audio signal, which includes a sound signal with an elevation in an environment with a horizontal arrangement circuit, thereby obtaining a rendering parameter in accordance with the rendering type and configuring the downmix matrix. Method includes steps of receiving a multichannel signal comprising a plurality of input channels to be converted to a plurality of output channels; determine the type of rendering for rendering with elevation based on a parameter determined from the characteristics of the multichannel signal; and rendering at least one high-altitude input channel in accordance with the determined rendering type, wherein the parameter is included in the bit stream of the multi-channel signal.
EFFECT: ensuring high rendering performance with respect to an audio signal that is not suitable for applying virtual rendering.
