SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrical engineering and can be applied as a method for determining the residual life of brushes of traction collector electric motors. Method is based on comparing the ratio of the brush length with the allowable one, and the calculation is made depending on the main parameters of the engine operating mode (rotation frequency n, pressing force on the brush N_co.b, brush current l_b, sparking energy W_s), under which the calculation of constant coefficients of components of wear is made from the data of three experiments with the measurement of each component of wear separately, and taking into account the impact of the profile of the collector on the process of wear of brushes, which allows to increase the accuracy of the calculation of the service life without the use of additional equipment.
