SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to surgical instruments, specifically to surgical cutting and stapling instruments, which are configured to cut and staple tissue, staple cartridges therefor and surgical staples for use therewith. Surgical staple comprises a base, only one pair of staple legs and a centre of mass. Base comprises an intermediate portion. Only one pair of staple legs forms the plane of the legs, wherein both legs extend linearly between the base and the corresponding tip in one direction. Centre of mass is offset from the plane of the legs. Intermediate portion is flat, wherein the intermediate portion is located in a second plane parallel to the plane of the legs. Staple cartridge includes a cartridge body, a staple cavity and said cartridge. Staple cartridge is formed in the cartridge body, and the staple cavity comprises a longitudinal side wall. Base further comprises a longitudinal guide surface that is movable adjacent to the longitudinal side wall of the staple cavity.

EFFECT: group of inventions is characterised by that the staple provides a three-dimensional area of tissue capture, captures and compresses a large amount of tissue.
