SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medical equipment, specifically to means for enabling a patient to view images while the patient is in an MRI scanner. Medical imaging system, in particular CT or MRI apparatus, comprises a patient table, a scanning device with a bore into which the patient table can be moved; a system for creating an ambient experience for a patient on the patient table, comprising a display for displaying image content; an illumination device for illuminating the surroundings of the patient with polarised light; a viewing aid for directing light from the display to the eyes of the patient, wherein said viewing aid comprises a polarising filter and is configured to optically interact with the light from the illumination device, which differs from the optical interaction with the light from the display due to the fact that the light from the illumination device has a different polarisation from the light from the displayed visual content. Method for creating patient ambient experience in a scanner with a bore in a medical imaging system includes displaying image content; illuminating the surroundings of the patient with polarised light; directing light from the image content to the eyes of the patient with preference over light from the illumination device due to the optical interaction with the light from the illumination device, which differs from the optical interaction with the light from the displayed image content.

EFFECT: use of inventions allows to reduce the feeling of discomfort by the patient during medical procedures.
