FIELD: acoustics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hearing protection against noise. Ear pad has a configuration that allows it to be located in the user's earflap, and contains a twisted acoustic horn, the configuration of which ensures the reception of sound waves propagating through the air through the first sound-receiving opening and the release of sound waves propagating through the air through the second sound-discharging opening. Cross-sectional area of the sound-receiving opening is larger than the cross-sectional area of the sound-discharging opening by an amount from about 150 % to about 1,600 % of the cross-sectional area of the second sound-discharging opening. Sound-discharging opening is offset from the inlet. Twisted acoustic horn has an average narrowing in the range from about 50 % to about 400 % per centimeter of horn length. Tip of the ear pad is configured to fit into the ear canal of the user, the base unit of the ear pad and the tip of the ear pad in combination form a passive hearing protection device.
EFFECT: increased noise protection and enhanced useful sounds.
