SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to the pharmaceutical industry, in particular to a method for the prevention or treatment of a degenerative neurological disease of a subject. Method for the prevention or treatment of a degenerative neurological disease of a subject, which consists in administering to the subject a pharmaceutical composition containing the extract of the tissue of Poria cocos as an active substance. Method for the prevention or treatment of a degenerative neurological disease of a subject, consisting in assigning to the subject a composition containing Poria cocos tissue extract as an active substance. Use of a composition containing Poria cocos tissue extract as an active ingredient for the preparation of a medicament for the prevention or treatment of a degenerative neurological disease of a subject in need thereof. Above composition is effective for the prevention or treatment of a degenerative neurological disease of a subject, capable of (i) improving spatial memory, (ii) improving cognitive memory, (iii) protecting nerve cells, (iv) reducing the toxic effects of beta-amyloid on neurons, (v) inhibiting the formation of β-amyloid (Abeta), (vi) promoting the formation of neurotrophic growth factor, (vii) inhibiting the activity of acetylcholinesterase (AChE), (viii) reducing the cytotoxicity caused by Aβ₄₂, (ix) inhibiting tau protein phosphorylation, or (x) combining indicated functions.

EFFECT: above composition is effective for preventing or treating a degenerative neurological disease of a subject.
