FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for synthesising a compound of formula (I) – an intermediate compound for producing agomelatine, having valuable pharmacological properties. Method consists in that 7-methoxy-naphthalen-2-ol of formula (III) reacts with ethyl orthoformate in the presence of aniline, followed by hydrolysis of the obtained intermediate imine compound to obtain a compound of formula (IV), compound of formula (IV) is then subjected to a sulphonylation reaction to obtain a compound of formula (V), where R is -CH3 or a tolyl group, and the resulting compound of formula (V) is subjected to a deoxygenation reaction in the presence of a transition metal and a reducing agent to form a compound of formula (I), which is isolated in the form of a solid. Disclosed method allows to obtain a target product in accordance with the requirements of reproducibility, without the use of time-consuming purification. Present invention also relates to a method for synthesising agomelatine, to a compound of formula (V), where R is -CH3 or a tolyl group, as well as to the use of a compound of formula (V) and a compound of formula (III) in the synthesis of a compound of formula (I). (I), (III), (IV), (V).

EFFECT: novel method for the synthesis of 7-methoxy-naphthalene-1-carbaldehyde and use of agomelatine in the synthesis are disclosed.
