SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a technique of wastewater treatment and can be used in the biological treatment of wastewater in aeration tanks with activated sludge. Method for increasing the efficiency of a biological wastewater treatment filter includes regulating the intensity of light. Place a lighting-aeration element, equipped with a source of lighting 3 and an aerator, directly in a volume of treated wastewater with carriers of biomass. Regulate the amount of oxygen entering the aerator. Light source 3 uses LEDs emitting rays of the blue and red emission spectrum. Lighting intensity is controlled by the number of lit LEDs and their brightness.

EFFECT: invention allows to reduce energy costs, ensure the control of the development of groups of microorganisms and ease of operation.
