FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the barbituric acid producing method by of malonic acid diethyl ester with urea condensation in the absolute alcohol medium (methanol, the methanol and ethanol mixture) at a temperature of 85–95 °C for 30–90 minutes, with the total moisture content in the reaction system of less than 0.18 wt.%, in the presence of sodium methylate (synthesized from metallic sodium and absolute methanol, or commercial sodium methylate with the basic substance content of at least 94.5 % and the carbonate and sodium hydroxide sum of not more than 5.5 %) as the catalyst with the malonic acid diethyl ester, urea, sodium methoxide and alcohol medium molar ratio equal to 1:(1.1–1.2):(1.1–1.2):(17–22), the reaction mass filtration and the barbituric acid isolation.

EFFECT: barbituric acid production method simplification, reduction of the urea with malonic acid diethyl ester condensation time duration with the barbituric acid high yield.
