FIELD: navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of land navigation and can be used in autonomous systems of land navigation, which require the determination with high accuracy of speed and distance traveled by a land vehicle (LV). Claimed method for determining the speed of a land vehicle is to continuously measure the speed of an object by main and periodic measurement with high accuracy with an additional meter. In this case, the measurement of the delay time of the signal of the second channel with respect to the first one with a high-precision meter within certain time interval limits is used. Frequency of measurements with a high-precision meter is determined on the basis of a comparison of the signal levels of the second channel of a high-precision meter relative to the first channel, and in case of their discrepancy exceeding the threshold level, a more accurate meter consisting of several measuring channels of optoelectronic sensitive elements which identify areas of heterogeneity of the road surface is disconnected.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy and reliability of measuring the speed of a land vehicle.
