SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for controlling the height of a drum of a cutting machine in a long face and the position the cutting machine in a long face and relates to automated control of coal mining equipment. Method includes: creating a correlation model between the adjustment value of the blasting depth of a lower knife drum of the cutting machine and the value of the change of the roll angle of the cutting machine. Creation of a geological information system of a coal seam for a bottomhole and obtaining the profile of the roof of the coal seam and the profile of the bottom of the coal seam in the direction of movement of the cutting machine in the long face. Determination of slope change points on the coal seam profile and gradual linearization of the coal seam bottom profile. Obtaining information about the position and location of the cutting machine in the long face in real time due to the technology of positioning the cutting machine using information about the geological environment, calculating the adjustment value of the depth of blasting of the lower knife drum of the cutting machine using the correlation model between the adjustment value of the depth of blasting of the lower knife drum and the value of changing the slope angle of the cutting machine to control the position of the cutting machine.

EFFECT: proposed method effectively combines the control of the position of a cutting machine and the determination of the inclination angle of a coal seam, which allows the inclination angle of the cutting machine to be adjusted to the inclination angle of the coal seam.
