SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a contactor for heat and mass exchange columns, a column with such a contactor, a floating structure for the production of hydrocarbons containing such a heat and mass exchange column with the specified contactor, and the use of the column with the specified contactor for gas treatment, CO₂ capture, distillation or air processing. This invention can be used in offshore gas processing installations. Above contactor contains a random packing made of random sets of unit elements. Said packing is distributed among several compartments delimited by at least one wall splitting the random packing in the axial direction of the contactor. Further, the compartments in which the packing is distributed may be in the form of a parallelepiped, a cylinder, or a prism. Above wall splitting the random packing can be made of a structured packing or a perforated plate.

EFFECT: ensures uniformity of flow distribution in the heat / mass exchange column, in particular in the case of column inclination, regardless of the direction of inclination, and the benefits of a random packing, such as low head loss and ease of installation in marine environments.
