SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a method for controlling the movement of a self-propelled drilling unit. Self-propelled drilling unit comprises a right-hand vehicle and a left-hand vehicle, and a device for mutually independent speed control and transmission to set in motion said right-hand vehicle and left-hand vehicle. Transmission provides at least two gearbox transmissions. Control method includes the steps of: requesting a travel speed for the specified right driving means and for the specified left driving means; determining the difference between the requested speeds of the specified right running gear and the specified left running gear; determining a suitable transmission based on the difference determined in this way. In this case, at a certain suitable gear, lower than the current gear, an automatic gear shift is carried out from the specified current gear to the specified specific lower gear.

EFFECT: simplified and reliable control of the unit.
