FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for producing a low molecular weight α-olefin polymer. Method involves the reaction of low molecular weight polymerization of α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound containing a transition metal atom (a), a nitrogen atom containing compound (b), an alkyl aluminum compound (c) and a chlorine atom compound (d), as well as a reaction solvent. Compound (d) containing the chlorine atom contains at least two compounds selected from the group consisting of a chlorinated hydrocarbon compound and a chlorinated compound containing a typical metal atom. Compound (d) containing a chlorine atom contains a compound of chlorinated hydrocarbon as an essential component. Rate of chlorine atom cleavage from the chlorinated hydrocarbon compound in the compounds containing chlorine atom (d) is higher than the chlorine atom cleavage rate from 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane. Compounds (d) containing a chlorine atom contain at least two compounds: first compound (d)-1 containing a chlorine atom and second chlorine atom containing compound (d)-2, which has a chlorine atom removal rate lower than the chlorine atom splitting rate from the first chlorine atom containing compound (d)-1.
EFFECT: technical result is suppression of deterioration of catalyst activity with time in the production of low molecular weight α-olefin polymer by low molecular weight polymerization reaction of α-olefin.
