FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to two variants of a process for producing a lower polymer α-olefin by carrying out α-olefin reaction with a low degree of polymerization. One variant of the method includes: response α-olefin in the presence of a catalyst comprising a compound containing a transition metal, an aluminium-containing compound and a halogenated hydrocarbon which has 2 or more carbon atoms and is substituted by one or more halogen atoms, and a solvent, in a reactor to produce a reaction product containing α-olefin with a low degree of polymerization, unreacted α-olefin, halogenated olefin having 2 or more carbon atoms and substituted by one or more halogen atoms and a solvent, wherein the halogenated olefin is a decomposition product of a halogenated hydrocarbon; purification of the reaction product in such a manner that α-olefin with a low degree of polymerization is separated from unreacted α-olefin, a halogenated olefin and a solvent; and recycling of unreacted α-olefin, a halogenated olefin and a solvent to the reactor. Amount of recycled halogenated olefin is in the range of 0.1 to less than 200 (molar ratio) relative to the amount of transition metal in the reactor.

EFFECT: recycling of the halogenated olefin promotes the catalytic reaction and the selectivity of the desired product can be increased while the activity remains within the claimed range.
