FIELD: instrument engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of a cathode pack for an aluminum electrolytic cell. Method includes the preparation of raw materials, molding the workpiece, carbonization, graphitization and cooling to form a cathode pack. Preparation of raw materials includes calcining of anthracite and petroleum coke in an electric calciner at a temperature of from 1200 to 1300 °C for 2 to 3 hours and stirring the resultant product with artificial graphite, coal tar asphalt and modifying additive in an amount of from 2.5 to 6.0 wt. % consisting of a mixture of lithium carbonate and crystalline silicon at a mass ratio of 4:1. Carbonization of the workpiece is carried out in an annular furnace with gas heating at a temperature in a gaseous environment not lower than 1100 °C for from 2 to 3 hours. Graphitization of the workpiece is carried out in a direct heating furnace by heating the workpiece to a temperature of from 2800 to 3000 °C for 2 to 3 hours.
EFFECT: degree of abrasive wear of the cathode pack surface is reduced, resistance to electrolyte adsorption and sodium penetration is increased, power consumption is reduced, and service life and electrolytic cell performance are increased.
