COATINGS WITH FLEXIBLE HYPERBRANCHED POLYOLS Russian patent published in 2019 - IPC C08G63/18 C08G63/20 C09D167/00 C08G65/28

Abstract RU 2683281 C2

FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a coating composition. Described is a coating composition comprising a flexible hyperbranched polyol, which is obtained by (a) reacting a polyol comprising at least three hydroxyl groups selected from trimethylolethane, trimethylolpropane, trimethylolbutane and glycerol, with an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid having 6 to 36 carbon atoms, or an esterifiable derivative of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid selected from mono- or di-substituted esters with aliphatic alcohols having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, as well as anhydrides thereof, to form a hydroxyl-functional first intermediate product; (b) reacting the first intermediate product with a cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride selected from hexahydrophthalic anhydride and methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride to form a carboxylic acid second functional intermediate product; and (c) reacting the second intermediate product with an epoxy functional compound having a single epoxy group selected from glycidyl esters having an alkyl group having 7 to 17 carbon atoms to form a hyperbranched polyol. Invention also describes a method of coating a base, comprising depositing said coating composition onto the base to form a coating layer and curing the coating layer. Described is a method for producing a flexible hyperbranched polyol, comprising: (a) reacting a polyol comprising at least three hydroxyl groups selected from trimethylolethane, trimethylolpropane, trimethylolbutane and glycerol, with an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid, having from 6 to 36 carbon atoms, or an esterified derivative of an aliphatic dicarboxylic acid selected from mono- or di-substituted esters with aliphatic alcohols, having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms, as well as anhydrides thereof, to form a hydroxyl-functional first intermediate product; (b) reacting the first intermediate product with a cyclic carboxylic acid anhydride selected from hexahydrophthalic anhydride and methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride to form a carboxylic acid second functional intermediate; and (c) reacting the second intermediate product with an epoxy functional compound having a single epoxy group, selected from glycidyl esters, having an alkyl group having 7 to 17 carbon atoms, to form a hyperbranched polyol.

EFFECT: technical result is the preparation of a composition containing a hyperbranched polyol, providing a coating with improved durability and flexibility, as well as low content of volatile organic compounds.
