FIELD: data processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to stereo audio signal processing. Pan indices and gain factors are obtained by panning. Resulting pan indices characterize the pan positions for the time-frequency segments of the stereo signal and the resulting pan-gains characterize the pan positions for the time-frequency segments of the first and second audio signals. Mapping function is applied to all obtained panning indices of the time-frequency segments of the stereo signal that are in the frequency band, thus providing modified panning indices. Modified gain factors are determined by panning for the time-frequency signal segments of the first and second audio signals based on the modified pan indices. Stereo signal is reprogrammed according to the relationship between the modified gains due to panning and the resulting gains due to panning.
EFFECT: improving the quality of stereo audio processing.
