FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic chemistry, specifically to the synthesis of the chemical compound 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, the organic and inorganic salts and esters of which are well known herbicides. Invention relates to a method including a stage of producing an alkaline earth salt of phenoxyacetic acid by reacting phenol with monochloroacetic acid and an alkaline earth metal oxide in an aqueous medium at a temperature of 90–100 °C, stage of chlorination of the alkaline earth salt of phenoxyacetic acid with a chlorinating agent with the release of a target product.
EFFECT: improved low-waste technology for producing the target product, in which chlorine-substituted phenols and, therefore, dioxins are not formed.
