FIELD: organic chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic chemistry, specifically to synthesis of the chemical compound 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, organic and inorganic salts, esters and mixed preparations whereof which are well-known herbicides. The invention relates to a method for producing 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, including a stage of synthesising a calcium salt of phenoxyacetic acid by condensation of phenol with monochloroacetic acid and calcium oxide at elevated temperature while mixing, a stage of chlorination of the calcium salt of phenoxyacetic acid with a chlorinating agent and isolation of the target product by a known method, wherein the calcium salt of phenoxyacetic acid is synthesised in the melt of the initial reagents at the temperature of self-heating of the reaction mixture.

EFFECT: technical result is an improved non-waste technology for obtaining the target product, wherein chlorine-substituted phenols and, therefore, dioxins, are not formed.
