FIELD: navigation systems.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to navigation and, in particular, can be used to determine the coordinates of a towed complex (TC) during the execution of work on the search for sunken objects in the shelf areas. This result is achieved by using a short-range forward area sonar and a heading sensor, installed on the TC, as well as by performing in a certain way an information processing device containing a depth calculation unit, two feature detection units, a feature comparison unit.
EFFECT: technical result consists in determining the coordinates of the TC using artifacts of artificial or natural origin, located in the swath of search sonars of a towing vessel (TV) and TC.
