FIELD: data processing.

SUBSTANCE: this invention relates to paging for wireless transmit / receive modules (WTRUs). WTRU determines (610) a paging narrow band (NB) for the WTRU to monitor the MTC downlink control channel (M-PDCCH) signals based on at least the most significant bits (MSB) of the WTRU identifier function (WTRU-ID); controls (620) M-PDCCH within the defined paging NB for the WTRU; receives (630) downlink control information (DCI) in the monitored M-PDCCH within a defined NB paging during a paging event (PO) and receives (650) physical shared channel signals for data transmission on the downlink (PDSCH) associated with the M-PDCCH. In an alternative embodiment, the WTRU controls (420) the M-PDCCH in the M-PDCCH search space, wherein the M-PDCCH has an Enhanced Control Channel Element Index (ECCE) for the WTRU group containing the WTRU, and the M-PDCCH includes (430) DCI.

EFFECT: reduction in the channel bandwidth to a certain value for devices, including machine-to-machine communication (MTC) devices that are capable of supporting part of the channel bandwidth.
