FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: disclosed is a method of producing 5-vinyl-2-norbornene, involving thermal codimerisation of 1,3-butadiene and cyclopentadiene by Diels-Alder reaction in the presence of a radical polymerisation inhibitor - 4-tert-butylcatechol, cooling the reaction mixture and recovering the end product, where to introduce into 1,3-butadiene 4-tert-butylcatechol in amount of 0.03 wt. % of the amount of the cyclopentadiene fed, heating mixture of 1,3-butadiene and 4-tert-butylcatechol to temperature of 150–190 °C, and then cyclopentadiene is fed therein at a constant rate for 30 minutes while maintaining the same temperature until molar ratio of 1,3-butadiene: cyclopentadiene - (1.25–2):1.
EFFECT: technical result is high output of 5-vinyl-2-norbornene with high conversion of cyclopentadiene.
