FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2-ethylidene norbornene, involving hydrogenation of 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene with hydrogen in the presence of a nickel catalyst. Method is characterized by that catalyst used is Raney nickel taken in amount of 1–2 wt% to 2-ethylidene norbornene, and hydrogenation is carried out for 3–7 hours at temperature from minus 10 °C to 20 °C and pressure of 0.8–1.0 MPa, after which the reaction mass is filtered to separate the catalyst.
EFFECT: high output of 2-ethylidene norbornene to the recovered product while maintaining high conversion of 5-ethylidene-2-norbornene, simplifying the method and reducing catalyst consumption.
