FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: thermite rod relates to welding of metals by melting, namely, to devices for production of melt in crucible-mold for thermite welding and can be used for welding of copper leads of electrochemical protection to main pipelines. Thermal rod for melt production in crucible-mold is formed by cold pressing of thermite mixture. In lower part it has layer with thickness of 1 to 3 mm, containing metal powder with melting point from 230 °C to 1,600 °C in amount of 90–99 wt%. As metal powder said layer contains copper powder or iron powder, or tin powder.
EFFECT: invention provides accurate prediction of temperature and time mode of combustion, which makes it possible to expand range of thermite mixtures for welding wires of electrochemical protection to pipelines.
