FIELD: internal combustion engines.
SUBSTANCE: invention discloses a method and system for purifying an exhaust gas stream which is formed by combustion in an internal combustion engine and contains nitrogen oxides NOx. Method involves first oxidation of compounds containing one or more of nitrogen, carbon and hydrogen in an exhaust stream. Method also comprises determining value (NO2_1/NOx_1)det for ratio between first amount of nitrogen dioxide NO2_1 and first number of nitrogen oxides NOx_1, coming out of the first oxidative catalyst after the first oxidation. Method also includes first supply of first additive to exhaust gas flow, which is performed with active control based on determined value (NO2_1/ NOx_1)det for ratio. Then first reduction of, at least, first amount of nitrogen oxides NO is performedx_1 by catalytic reaction in catalytic filter. Said catalytic filter consists of particulate filter with, at least, partially catalytic coating with reduction characteristics.
EFFECT: catalytic filter is configured to trap and oxidise solid particles in exhaust gases and perform first reduction of first amount of nitrogen oxides NOx_1.
