SUBSTANCE: exhaust gas treatment system includes: a first oxidation catalyst for the oxidation of nitrogen and / or hydrocarbon compounds in an exhaust gas stream; a first dosage device located downstream of the first oxidation catalyst and intended for introducing a first additive into the exhaust gas stream; a first reduction catalyst device, located downstream of the first dosage device and designed to reduce nitrogen oxides in the exhaust stream using the first additive; a second oxidation catalyst located downstream of the reduction catalyst device, and intended for the oxidation of one or more compounds, which are nitrogen oxide and partially oxidised carbon compounds, in the exhaust gas stream; a particulate filter located downstream of the oxidation catalyst and designed to trap and oxidise soot particles in the exhaust stream; a second dosage device downstream of the particulate filter and intended to introduce a second additive into the exhaust gas stream; and a second reduction catalyst device downstream of the second dosage device and designed to reduce nitrogen oxides in the exhaust stream using at least one of the first and second additives.
