FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an electrochemical cell for electrocoagulation, comprising a cathode and a consumable anode, comprising a consumable portion and a non-consumable electroconductive portion. Cell is characterized by that consumable part has porosity between 20 and 60 % by volume and consists of pressed powder containing iron powder with at least 90 % by weight of iron. Invention also relates to a method of removing contaminants from water.
EFFECT: use of the proposed invention improves manipulation of the consumable anode while maintaining a sufficiently high coagulation rate.
