FIELD: processes for reducing content of sulfurous impurities in aluminum cells.
SUBSTANCE: in bath of aluminum cell with inert anode zone with lowered content of impurities is created. Such zone may be created by immersing into bath of cell cleaning electrode or by arranging in any part of bath tube preventing oxygen access or by adding to bath reducing agents such as aluminum, CO and (or) CO2 or by removing electrodes from several parts of cell. It provides possibility for discharging gaseous impurities out of cell bath. Content of sulfurous impurities also may be reduced in aluminum cells with inert anode by washing out deposits from cell bath before returning them to cell and by controlling content of sulfurous impurities in materials added to cell.
EFFECT: significantly increased electric current efficiency of aluminum cell.
