FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: detection method and a detection device for stacked banknotes. Detection method comprises: collecting an image of the front side and an image of the reverse side of the banknotes to be recognized and passing images (101); respectively, obtaining banknote front side information and banknote reverse side information with respect to banknotes to be recognized in accordance with front side image and reverse side image and initialisation of corresponding attribute window of local characteristic, wherein attribute window of local characteristic is a template of preset recognition area containing corresponding attributes of image characteristic to be recognized (102); performing measurement of degree of communication of image in transmitted light for image of front side and image of reverse side in accordance with attribute window of local characteristic for formation of measurement result (103); evaluating whether the measurement result satisfies the predetermined layering condition of banknotes (104); if so, determining that the banknotes to be recognized are stacked banknotes (105); and, if not, determining that the banknotes to be recognized are not stacked banknotes (106).

EFFECT: detection method for stacked banknotes solves the problem of incorrect evaluation, which is easily caused when there are connections to banknotes, banknotes are slightly bent along the arc and old banknotes become thick.
