FIELD: technological processes.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to heat and sound insulating material containing mineral fibers with diameter from 0.5 to 10.0 mcm and binder obtained by hardening of aqueous composition containing polyvinyl alcohol, modified starch and process additives, as well as a combination of two dehydrating agents – basic and additional. Main dehydrating agent is selected from tetrabutoxytitanium, nickel formate or sodium tetraborate, and the additional dehydrating agent is at least one substance selected from silver oxalate, rhenium chloride or mixture of zirconium carbonate and cerium sulphate. Content of dehydrating agents is not more than 0.022 wt%. At that, heat- and sound-insulating material includes, wt%: main dehydrating agent from 0.01 to 0.02, additional dehydrating agent 0.0017, polyvinyl alcohol from 1.2 to 4.0, modified starch from 1.2 to 1.8, dust-retarder from 0.454 to 0.5, hydrophobisating emulsion from 0.435 to 0.5, silane from 0.053 to 0.2 and mineral fiber. Invention also relates to a method of producing said material.

EFFECT: invention significantly improves processability and environmental safety of the process of making articles from fibrous material on a naphthene-formaldehyde binder, as well as improves characteristics of the end product.
