FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing ceramic composite articles used as light-weight heat insulation for industrial heating furnaces and hot parts of gas-turbine power plants with working temperature of up to 1600°C. The method involves preparation of a crude fibrous workpiece and its saturation with binding material which contains an inorganic oxide, a gelling agent and additionally a water-soluble polymer selected from: polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylamide, polyethylene oxide, starch or mixture thereof, followed by pressing and drying. Pressing is carried out in a gas-permeable mould with continuously rising pressure which exceeds the yield limit of wet gel and solvent vapour pressure, and while constantly raising temperature up to the end of the shrinking process of the ceramic composite article. The pressing pressure ranges from 2 to 6 MPa at temperature between 20 and 150°C. The inorganic oxide used is colloidal silicon oxide, aluminium oxide and/or precursors thereof: aluminium oxychoride, aluminium nitrate, polyethoxy siloxanes or mixture thereof. The fibrous workpiece consists of fibre from aluminium oxide, silicon oxide, mullite, zirconium oxide, aluminosilicate or mixtures thereof.
EFFECT: high strength of articles with low heat conductivity.
