FIELD: metallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to hydrometallurgy of lithium, in particular to a method of extracting lithium from lithium-containing chloride brines from natural brines, process solutions and waste water from oil and gas production, chemical, chemical-metallurgical and biochemical industries. Method involves obtaining a lithium concentrate by sorption concentration of the initial brine on lithium in a sorption-desorption concentration module using a granular sorbent based on a chlorine-containing species of double hydroxide of aluminium and lithium, washing of lithium sorbent saturated with lithium chloride from brine with desalted water, which is supplied in direction opposite to filtration direction of initial lithium-containing brine, in volume equal to 90 to 130 % of volume of used granulated sorbent in sorption-desorption concentration module, direction of brine after washing into stream of initial lithium-containing brine, supplied to sorption, desorption of lithium chloride from the sorbent to obtain a primary lithium concentrate - a lithium chloride solution with magnesium and calcium impurities, and purification of the lithium concentrate from impurities.

EFFECT: invention improves efficiency of lithium extraction, eliminates loss of lithium, reduces number of process steps and amount of chemical reagents used, low cost of commercial lithium-containing product and reduces volume of waste water to be treated and/or recycled.
