FIELD: hydrometallurgy.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the hydrometallurgy of rare metals, in particular to the sorption separation of lithium from natural brines and wastewater. The proposed method includes feeding the initial lithium-containing brine into the sorption-desorption enrichment module, which is at least one vertically installed column filled with an inorganic granular sorbent, which is used as a chlorine-containing double hydroxide of aluminum and lithium. After the sorption stage, before washing, the residual lithium-containing brine is drained from the column, washing is carried out at a rate of at least 6 column volumes per hour, in a volume equal to 150-250% of the volume of the sorbent in the column, in the direction coinciding with the direction of supply of the initial lithium-containing brine. Then, lithium is desorbed from the sorbent with demineralized water in the direction coinciding with the direction of supply of the initial lithium-containing brine, to obtain a solution enriched with lithium. The resulting solution, containing practically pure lithium chloride, is subjected to evaporation or another method of concentration.

EFFECT: invention provides a decrease in the loss of lithium with a wash solution, an increase in the purity of the target product.
