FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radar engineering and can be used for detection and measurement of distances to various types of movable and fixed objects when implementing in a radar station a probing composite linear-frequency-modulated (LFM) pulse, and also can be used in radar and sonar, in those areas and fields of activity, where it is necessary to measure distances to inaccessible objects. Said results are achieved by the fact that the method employs a broadband probing pulse consisting of a merged sequence of elementary LFM pulses with alternating frequency modulation symbols, with pseudorandom values of initial frequencies and initial phases, wherein due to matched filtration of reflected pulses, duration of which can be shorter than the duration of the probing pulse, delay of maximum amplitude of reflected pulse at outputs of filters does not depend on Doppler frequency and corresponds to distance to detected target without Doppler error, resolution on range has constant value in the entire range of range, and signal frequency, measured by discriminator method on maximum amplitudes in two adjacent filters, corresponds to Doppler shift of target frequency, unambiguously related to its radial speed.
EFFECT: technical result is providing monopulse measurement of distance and radial speed of targets with constant resolution in range and radial speed in the entire range of range.
