SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to medicine. Method for controlling the state of human sleep is carried out using a sleep monitoring device. Human motion data from the motion measurement device are obtained. Using the analyser from the motion data, the heartbeat data, respiratory data, coarse motions data and thin movements data are calculated. Using the classifier within the time interval, heart rate invariance is evaluated by heartbeat data, assessment of respiratory regularity according to respiratory data, range of coarse movement and range of fine motion. Motion sweep from movement data is calculated. If the swing motion exceeds the first threshold, rough motion is determined. If the motion sweep exceeds the second threshold but does not exceed the first threshold, a subtle motion is detected, wherein the second threshold is less than the first threshold. If the movement span is below the second threshold, neither thin nor rough motion is detected. Sleep classifier is used to obtain a sleep state for a given time interval from assessment of respiratory regularity, heart rate invariance assessment, coarse movement span and fine motion span. Sleep control system comprises a sleep monitoring device, a mattress and a motion measurement device installed relative to the mattress for measuring motion data, which reflects the movement of the resting person on the person's mattress.
