FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention is intended for application of coatings on the surface of wooden articles and structures in order to increase fire resistance, protection against fire and prevention of flame propagation along surface of structures. Fire-retardant composition for impregnating wood contains an organic halogen-containing product and a solvent (chloroform). Halogen-containing product contains bromated 4-vinylcyclohexene with 70–80 % bromine content. Brominated 4-vinylcyclohexene is obtained via bromination of 4-vinylcyclohexene in chloroform followed by distillation of unreacted monomers, chloroform and their subsequent return to the process. Produced product is applied on surface in amount of 80–120 g/m2.
EFFECT: fire-retardant compound makes it possible to effectively protect wood products against flame propagation, to recycle petrochemical by-products and to reduce environmental pollution.
