FIELD: polymers.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a group of inventions: a modified diene-containing (co)polymer, variants of methods for producing a modified diene-containing (co)polymer, the use of a modified diene-containing (co)polymer, expandable polystyrene and a polymer composition based on expandable polystyrene. The modified diene-containing (co)polymer contains halogen atoms and hydroxyhalogenated diene units in its structure, has a temperature of 5% weight loss, which is at least 180°C, a weight-average molecular weight of at least 1500 g/mol, a halogen content of at least 35% by weight based on the weight of the total (co)polymer and a content of hydroxyhalogenated diene units in an amount of from 0.05 to 1.9% by weight calculated based on the weight of the entire (co)polymer. The method for obtaining a modified diene-containing (co)polymer includes: the stage of dissolving the original diene-containing (co)polymer in a hydrocarbon solvent; an epoxidation step including the addition of an epoxidizing agent, or a modification step by adding components of the modifying system; a neutralization and separation step comprising adding an aqueous solution of a neutralizing agent and separating the aqueous and organic layers; an halogenation step including adding a halogenating agent, water to the organic layer, or an absence of this step; a neutralization and separation step comprising adding an aqueous solution of a neutralizing agent to the reaction mass and separating the aqueous and organic layers; a precipitation step comprising precipitating the modified diene-containing (co)polymer by adding an excess alcohol-precipitant to the organic layer; a separation step comprising filtration and subsequent drying of the precipitated modified diene-containing (co)polymer. This modified diene-containing (co)polymer is used as a flame retardant. Expandable polystyrene containing a modified diene-containing (co)polymer is used as a flame retardant. A polymer composition based on expandable polystyrene, including a modified diene-containing (co)polymer, is used in the field of construction as a flame retardant and may include additives that provide a set of technological, physical, mechanical and operational characteristics.
EFFECT: development of a flame retardant based on a diene-containing (co)polymer, which will be heat-resistant, will meet environmental requirements, and will also show good compatibility and provide excellent fire-retardant properties to polystyrene, including expandable polystyrene.
